Waldemar, Walter, Halu, zoltiar , Valdek, Voltaire. There are many names for my Tato, but only one that truly embodies who my father became. Walter.
It’s hard to think of key moments with my father as he truly had a magnetic energy and a specific showmanship that can only be described as class. He truly embodied a specific time, a style, and cadence that I’m not sure could ever be replicated. From bow ties and suspenders, to quick wit and class there were many times my father stood out amoungst the crowd and he never really had to try.
Something I can say with my heart, is there are not many people quite like my father. When going through the darkest days of my adult life, my father would drive me to my university, and listen to talk radio in the parking lot during my studies, for 7 plus hours … one time I actually called his favourite host John… when I told him my dad was a fan … John said “ hello walter how are you … “ oh not bad johnny” like they were old time friends. Dad listened to him repeatedly only because he didn’t want me to drive… he knew my head was in a different space, and didn’t want to risk his ONLY Daughter on those cold winter nights.
Some of the best memories of my father were him tinkering on cars, air conditioning units and radios with my brother. … sounds boring right? Well it never was… my father had a flowery way with language so the entire circumstances could be written into sitcom… he loves you so much Paul the way he could show you the ways of tinkering “the Latanski” way … I’m sure you’re wife will have to deal with those methods for a long time, but let’s be honest it always works … sort of.
And it wouldn’t be fair to speak about him, if I didn’t share how much he loved my mother and her hair…. There’s not too many guys out there who would ask to comb it at a party…. So romantic …. People might think it’s weird, but it’s really all about taking risks and being your authentic self.:: in the end he got the most beautiful woman in the world.
As our time grew and our family expanded my sister in law came into the picture… ohhhh boy….. when I tell you he always told me “I like Wendy” I had my reservations…. Until the times really got tough, and I saw with my own eyes how much you loved my father and he really loves you
And Ofcourse, there is no brotherhood like the Walter and Alfred story. Where my father would take you to the soccer games with his boys, and put a giant bolder on your coat so you would sit still. The fields would echo Halu and you would have it ingrained into your life for years to come. You bond of music and the arts was truly special and it can never be replicated, because both of you on stage were a force to be reckoned with.
And Ofcourse my husband. A father protecting his daughter because “Ula you think I don’t know , I know , I was boy once too” it always struck me as odd cause he never had reservations about you.. you had a connection with music… and for him I think he understood that language even if it was decades different.
What’s very weird to me is on the day he passed, I the skies were completely clear. Not a single cloud… and if you know Walter like I did the berometric pressure would always affect him from the clouds .. right Jenn and Jessica?? Who broken my vindow.
While I sit today and reflect on my father, there is one thing I am but Certain, is that he is so beyond proud of his nephews and it was one of the happiest moments in his life to have mason and Lucas carrying on his legacy,,,, and I’m sure you will see it more as they grow…. Wether it be the Latanski tinkering , or the showmanship on stage, he is was truly a renaissance man and those boys are too.
There are so many stories I can tell, so many situations I can devulge, where my father would take an ordinary day… and make it extra special… but as we lay him to rest… I say but one thing he said to me in confidence “ don’t cry” because he’s seen the beaches of California and the cobble stones of Poland.
… and I’m the end, he was never bitter and his life lives through all the lives he touched….
“Once in a blue moon” they say and it would be fitting for my dad to prepare to make an exit on an out of the ordinary night. He wasn’t an ordinary guy
The day he died looks a lot more blue , and the weather is perfect… and in that I understand peace as father passed.
I can only describe his presence and sense of humour at charismatic and entertaining , and that is how I want to remember him.
You are with your mother now and always hugging us withwarm with the warm sun
My father was an interesting guy and I can’t say it entirely from a monologue… but one things for sure he always was the life of the party…. And I leave you with but one question, he always asked… do you know what the capital of Australia is??? … “if you don’t know, don’t say it cause you might sound stupid”

I’ve known Mr. Latanski since 2004, but knew him only as “Wally”. Having met his daughter Julia in high school I knew from the very early stages of our friendship that Wally would do whatever was required to make sure his family was taken care of and made sure their needs were his top priority.
This was evident when he would show up to our high school, in the middle of a class, to ensure Julia had some food to eat. Or, when I would call their house looking for Julia, he would tell me she would call me back because she was sleeping and he knew his daughter needed to rest to be the best she could be.
Those are small snippets of the man Wally was. These small gestures were impactful enough for me to remember and that was just a peek inside of what kind of dedication he had to his family.
He’s left a handprint of kindless, love, selflessness, tenacity and most definitely humour on anyone who was lucky enough to meet him.
Rest in paradise, Waldemar.

Tato, there are no words to describe your unique sense of humour and ability to make a room howl with laughter. You were a blazing light and embodied a true magnetism. When I think of all of the amazing things you have done for our family I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart. Forever I will try to strive to greet people with the same sense of kindness you offered the world. I have been gifted with an incredible role model and mentor. For all time I will be smiling knowing that you left your handprints on many hearts, family, friends and anyone who you encountered.

Well, you did and did it VERY WELL! LOL This was our picture together after our success. Xoxo

Sending our warmest heartfelt condolences to Paul and all of his family. No words or actions can make the loss any easier, but the love and support can hopefully ease some of the pain, even if its momentarily. You are in our thoughts, and offer support you in anyway we possibly can. Your dad was a wonderful man. Though we only met a handful of times, I can assure you each meeting was an absolute pleasure, and certainly memorable as it was usually accompanied with humor. Take care of yourselves and one another.
With love,
The Morra Family.
