September 17, 2003 will forever be etched in my heart and soul as the day that I lost my precious first born son. On September 23rd, 2003 we had to do the unthinkable, the utterly, most devastating, overwhelmingly difficult, unimaginable thing for any parent - any mother; we laid my beautiful, sweet son, Kaleb to rest who was tragically taken from us far too soon. I had the fortunate blessing and privilege of raising Kaleb for 16 years of his life. Kaleb was blessed with an honerary father figure for the last 10 years, Joel and has a 4 siblings on our side of the family Karissa, Kaiyah, Eli and Malachi. From the moment he was born he was such a quiet, gentle, peaceful soul but such a force to be reckoned with. As a small child, he was such a physically strong little boy, so much so his childhood nick name was Bam Bam after a character from the Flintstones. As his mother, I am so proud to have watched him grow into the great example he was to his friends and family. His laughter brought joy into our lives, and his wisdom will forever echo in our hearts. Kaleb was a beautiful soul and a beacon of light in our world, always teaching us so many things; in particular, patience, humility, compassion and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. His kind nature, quiet strength, unwavering perseverance and determination to succeed was bar none. Kaleb would have been the best Firefighter and first responder. I’m so proud of my son, his innate calm demeanor his beautiful character and soul, and the man he was becoming. This is my worst, heart-rendering nightmare, that keeps playing on loop with no end. I have a hole in my heart. There are no words to describe the pain and anguish. Oh what I would give to hear his sweet voice or infectious laugh, see his beautiful smile, give him a hug, hear him call me mom, or say I love you one more time. Our family has to live without Kaleb for the rest of our lives and continue to cope with this nightmare, long after the “casseroles and check ins” are done. I take comfort in knowing that although I can't mentally comprehend why, I know he is walking with God. "For we walk by faith not by sight" 2 Corinthians 5:7 Kaleb, we will forever have a void in our lives without you but will always have you alive and remered in our hearts. I love you with my entire being. Mom xo
