Obituary of Ian McIsaac
In Loving Memory of Ian McIsaac
Ian McIsaac, a dedicated advocate for working-class rights and a beloved family man, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Tuesday December 5, 2023 at the age of 74. He is now reunited with his loving wife, Mary, whom he missed dearly since 2001, his brother Walter (2001) and his sister, Christine (1986).
Ian is survived by his sister, Janet Carruthers, his sister-in-law, Irene McIsaac and his four children: Tracy (Eric), Colin (Heather), Suzanne (Frank) and Mary (Peter). His legacy lives on through his nine grandchildren: Cameron, Andrew, Iain, Thomas, Nicholas, Connor, Theo, Kate and Lily.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 17, 1949, to Elizabeth Scott and Walter McIsaac, Ian’s early passion for improving the lives of working-class people led him to Toronto, Canada in 1969. He proudly served as a member of Millwrights Local 2309 (Scarborough) for 48 years and spent over 12 years as the Executive Security-Treasurer of the Millwright Regional Council of Ontario. Throughout his life, Ian fought for fairness and equity and has made a significant impact on the lives of many with his strong conviction, straightforward approach, and direct candor.
Ian was a loving family man, married to Mary for 29 years, before her untimely death. He was a proud Father, a doting Grandfather, strong friend, and a loyal colleague. He adored his favourite football team, the great Glasgow Rangers FC, win or lose. He loved to talk and could often be seen engaging in active political debate about the pressing issues or controversial leaders of the day. With his broad Scottish accent and welcoming approach, he had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and respected.
Ian will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, friends, and those that had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire those he touched.
Visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home 1289 Keith Ross Drive in Oshawa on Friday December 8th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday December 9th at 11:00am. If desired, memorial donations to the Lakeridge Health Foundation would be appreciated.
