Obituary of Barbara Delaney
Barbara Ann-Marie Delaney
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
Barbara(nee Yearwood) was born in Hastings on March 10, 1933.
Barbara was married to Paul Delaney for 58 years before his passing in 2013. Predeceased by her parents Raymond and Verna Yearwood, sister Lillian, brother Douglas, her in-laws Gerald and Irene Delaney, sisters-in-law Geraldine Delaney and Bernadette Delaney. She is survived by her sister-in-law Irene Delaney.
She will be dearly missed by daughter Paula (Dave Biglin), Joseph (Angela) and Gerald; her grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew Pozzan), James Delaney and Robert Biglin and great-grandchildren Allie Delaney and Louie Pozzan.
Barbara worked briefly outside her home in late 1970’s as a mutual funds’ representative for Eaton Financial Service. She was enormously proud of her accomplishments and so were her family. However, Barbara’s passion as a homemaker, wife and mother was always #1 and she continued that way through her life. Her greatest joy was always being around her children and later grandchildren as well.
Nana as she became known (with Papa) had a huge influence on their grandchildren. They would go out of their way to plan days where all of them would be together playing. No game or activity was dismissed and often a day together with Nana and Poppa would include a picnic. In harsh weather it might be held under a blanket tent on the living room floor.
Barbara’s passion for children extended to volunteering at elementary schools doing whatever she could do with arts and crafts.
Barbara was involved with Oshawa Seniors Centre on John St. and for several years with Paul, they managed the bingo events.
Barbara was an accomplished tailor and worked from home providing stunning one-of-a-kind garments for a selection of clients (including her daughter).
Barbara loved to cook for the family and everyone’s birthday was unique and celebrated every year. The dinner table was set with her beautiful china and silverware. This was normal every Sunday evening and she took immense pride in it.
Barbara was a resident at Thorntonview Long Term Care in Oshawa for the previous 6 years. The family want to thank the staff for all they did for Barbara during her residency there.
A Memorial Service will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive in Oshawa (905)440 3595 on Friday Febuary 16th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Whitby.
