Obituary of Raymond Blomme

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Blomme on June 24, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 85. Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Blomme, to whom he was married for 60 years.  He is also survived by his two sons, Dan Blomme and David Blomme.

Born on September 20, 1938 in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Toronto, Raymond moved to Oshawa in 1971 to work at Durham College – where he taught photography for 25+ years.  He was described by many as a 'Renaissance Man' - with a range of interests - including music (a great piano player and former high school music teacher), photography (award winning professional photographer and photography professor at Durham College), carpentry, boxing, fishing and cooking to name but a few of his areas of interest and expertise. He had a great sense of humour, had a wealth of stories and brought smiles and laughter to many.  Raymond has also been described as 'gentle', 'kind', 'talented' and 'entertaining'. He had a positive impact on many people during his 85 years on this planet.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff in the palliative care unit of Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their compassionate care during his final days.

A memorial service and ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held for Raymond on Saturday, September 21 at 11:00am at DeStefano Funeral Home, Celebration & Reception Centre.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson Canada.
