Obituary of Mario Attina
It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of a great man, husband, father, and Nonno. Mario Attina passed away in the early hours of November 7, 2024 - just shy of his 87th birthday. Born on November 13, 1937 in the city of San Lucido, Italy. Mario was a proud, tried and true, old school Barber, practising his craft for over 73 years.
Mario leaves behind his loving wife Erminia (nee- Amendola) daughters, Teresa (Paul Johnston), Marcella (David Harrison) and Stephanie (Bryan Armstrong) predeceased son Luigi (1972). Six incredible grandchildren; Claire, Abbigale, Matthew, Isabelle, Mason, and Liam. He is forever in our hearts and will be remembered by his siblings Luigi (Anna), Franco (Sara), Mirella (Radolfo) and predeceased by his sister Maria (Fladamino), and brother Egido (Anna). He had a great love for Mom’s siblings: Natale (Alida), Emilio (Anna), Ersio (Lena) and her little sister Anna (Peter) whom he helped raise, and all his nieces and nephews. We would like to thank you for all your continued love and support. Mario loved each and every one of you.
Mario was a lover of nature and adventure, traveling to many parts of the world throughout his life, leaving a piece of his heart wherever he went. His adventures took him to Brazil where he set up a barber shop with his brother Luigi for 9 years, then to France where he lived with his brother Egido, back to his home country for a short stint to visit his siblings and parents, then off to Canada where he found the love of his life. Fishing was one of his greatest passions and he shared that love with his brother in-laws, his son in-laws and his grandchildren. The Attina family had some great fishing expeditions and some terrific meals set around his catch of the day. Wine, sausage and tomato sauce making were his pride and joy and he revelled in making and sharing his creations as they connected him and his family to his roots.
Mario lived an incredible fulfilled life and was admired by all those who met him. He wanted nothing but joy and love for all those he held dear to his heart. Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all family, friends, colleagues, clients, Lakeridge Health Hospital, and Princess Margaret Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Barrettara , D. Krzyzanowska, and Dr. Barron (and their teams) for always going above and beyond to ensure Mario had the best care.
Prior to his passing he sent his love to all his family here in Canada, New York, Italy and France.
We were blessed to make memories and spend time with him, up until his passing. He has left each of us with lasting messages that will forever hold a place in our hearts. Mario loved life and sends you all this message, “The love of a family is one of life’s greatest blessings.”
In lieu of flowers, donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
