Obituary of Douglas Woodward
Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We pray for the soul and loved ones of Douglas Woodward, who died peacefully among family on September 9, 2016 in Oshawa. Doug, the son of Gladys and Robert Woodward, was born on June 3, 1939 at the family home in Peterborough. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Marilyn Jane Woodward, née Brown; the families of his daughters Darlene Cholod and Maureen Gibson; and by his brother Bob and sisters Anne and Linda. Doug was known as ‘Papa’ by his grandchildren Matthew and Riley, the son and daughter respectively of Darlene and Darren; and by Jasmine, Ian, Brian, and William, the daughter and sons respectively of Maureen and Mark.
After a year of teaching multiple grades in a one-room country school house, Doug taught for thirty-three years at E.A. Lovell Elementary School in Oshawa. He was a highly respected teacher, husband, father, and grandfather. Doug was a true Renaissance man, an air pilot who became skilled in archery, fencing, judo, karate, and the French language. Doug received a Bachelor of Arts from York University, a Certificate of Education from Peterborough Normal School, and a Master of Education from the University of Toronto. He loved soccer, dancing, gardening, running, and had many other hobbies and interests, but Doug’s greatest achievements were in his conduct and treatment of others. We love you forever Papa.
