Obituary of Gerard Patrick
Please share a memory of Gerard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerard Renwick Patrick, fondly known as Gerry, at the age of 70, died Friday January, 7 2017 at the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto following a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Allision Quanchan; his beloved sons, Jason, Jamal and Renard; his sisters, Glenda and Annette; his brother, Kenneth; two grandchildren; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Trinidad, Gerry emigrated to Toronto, Canada in his early 20’s to begin a new life journey, which included meeting the love of his life, Allision, in December of 1979. Though the majority of his final years were spent taking care of his family in Ajax, over his many decades, Gerry spread his love and influence amongst those who crossed his path in a number of different areas across Canada.
In his early years in Toronto, Mr. Patrick used his keen love of music as a source of wealth, establishing his name as a DJ/Manager throughout the vibrant city. Later on, after a brief stint sewing in the retail fashion industry, Mr Patrick decided to pursue his love of fashion, opening his own tailoring company alongside his close friends and family. While successful in both avenues, inevitably it would be as a welder in the Iron Workers Union Local 721 and subsequently Local 736 in Bruce Power that Gerry would find his true calling. He not only took pride in his craft, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in this business. Additionally, his welding expertise and reputation led him on many adventures wherein he had the opportunity to impact the lives of the many of individual’s he stumbled upon.
Although his career took him on a different path, Gerry never lost his passion for fine clothes, music, and beautiful cars. For years, he would use his free time to continue pursing these passions; however, as a husband and father, these joys were now directed towards the betterment of those in his surroundings.
