We think of Matthew everyday. remembering him when he was very young and loved Country Western music and loved dancing either by himself or as he got older dancing with all the ladies at the legion. but it was an even bigger honour having him as part of our Legion Colour Party.

I went to both Middle and Secondary School with Matt. Looking back on it he always had a smile. Me and Matt had Choir together, we had various clubs, and He would always hug me in the halls. I remember always been picked on in middle school. He was one of the only ones to stick up for me. He was also the only boy to ever call me pretty or ask me out. He changed my life. To tell a heart broken child that they are bueatiful is one of the most important things someone can do. Looking back he made me feel special. In Highschool, I thought after a year of not seeing me he would forget about me... but no. The first day of high school I run in to him in the halls hes like HI ROSIE! its so good to see you and gives the biggest hug, and asks me how i have been. Hows my brother and my mom and my dad. Through out high school we would come up behind me and surprise me, make me laugh at my worst days. During my final year at highschool I had suffered from a huge breakdown. One day I just couldnt stop crying. Matt saw me and he told me don't cry, be happy and smile, I love when you smile. I often wonder how he was so brave. How everyday despite everything he has gone through could just give hope, and love to everyone. Days before his death I was sitting in my dorm room feeling sad, and then I wondered how he was doing. As soon as I heard of his death, it hit me like a brick wall. We have lost one of most inspirational people. I wish I could give him a hug right now, or just see his smile in person one last time. Or even sing those country songs with him. Matt Thank you for everything. Thankyou for getting me by during my hardest days. I wish I could have been there like you were for me, and many others. From the bottom of my heart, You were a great friend. I will always love you and miss you. Every time I am sad, or having a hard day, I will smile, and think of everyday you have cheered me up. You have taught me so many things. You have taught me beauty. To the Mcfarlane Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I can not even fathom what it would be like. But know this, your Matt has imprinted my heart for the rest of my life. He was a great friend. <3

To the McFarlene family; We are so shocked to hear of Matthew's passing. As you my son Mark went to school with him, right from K - high school. I remember Mark looking out for Matthew in lower grades, making sure he was ok,like a big brother would.Vanessa has too many memories of Matthew, he was like a big brother to her..lol .I always enjoyed his smiles, hugs and his singing. My memory was when I was in Bobcaygeon at Foodland and I heard this voice calling out" Mrs Austin , hi" I asked him if he was lost lol I was suprised to see him and to pick me out in a grocery store up north but of course he gave me a hug , his usual.Another morning I was watching Breakfast television and who should I see on there...Matthew.....he was everywhere..lol Matthew had an infectious smile and personality and yes we have all learned a great deal from him. Everyone keep his memories close to our hearts and as time goes on it won't take the pain away but it will help u cope with his loss. Matthew's memory will live on forever, he was Pickering,s SUPERSTAR. God Bless RIP Matthew , you will be dearly missed.

The world has lost an amazing person. It was a joy to know Matthew and see how he enjoyed life. I will never forget the first time I met him, he came into my back yard , he was about 10 year old and I was there with family... he sang country songs and got into our hearts. I will never be able to put my Christmas lights up again, without thinking about him.... he loved them so much. Rest in the arms of Jesus. My heart goes out to his family for the loss of such a great person. So sorry for your loss.

Although Matthew would never remember meeting me at a Blood Donor clinic in Pickering so many years ago he charmed his way into my heart that day and every day after when I would stumble upon him somewhere in the community, like a hockey arena. He was so full of life and love and joy and the tears fall as I recognize his picture in todays paper. He was such a joyful young man and I am so sorry for your loss. Peace be with you Matthew and all who love you.

Matthew was a truly beautiful soul who touched everyone around him and it is with deep sympathy I leave this message.

Matthew and his mom and dad loved to camp, and just so happened to choose our campground a few years ago as one of their adventures. Matthew lit up our lives from the moment we met him. We have loved Matthew ever since! He was so much fun to be around and his loving personality and brave heart touched our lives and our co workers hearts from the minute everyone met him. When Matthew would walk thru our door upon arrival, he would run and give us the hugest hugs that enveloped you like you had just been energized with endless love and hope. Almost like it was you he cared for more than himself. The kids, our staff and ourselves would joke around with him continuously and we just loved him so much!We are so sad to hear of his passing. I know one thing, we will never forget his smile and sincere kindness for others. We are so very happy that you loved to camp Matthew...otherwise we might never have met you!
Loads of love forever, your gang at the Parry Sound KOA

I remember so much about Matthew. What a special person he was. The first time that we had met, was on the street where he started to serenade to me. A little boy with a fabulous voice and from that moment on a long and lasting friendship developed between myself and the McFarlane family.
How I remember the smile on his face, the laughter which generated through his eyes, and all of the jokes he used to play on me. I remember when Matthew was very young and he used to come over just to play with the dog so early in the morning. I would answer the door and offer him breakfast and it would be the same old thing, eggs, bacon, toast with juice. He would always say to me if it would not be any trouble and I would reply back for you NEVER.
I can remember so much that Matthew and I did together. One particular special moment was when I had thrown him a surprise birthday party at Chuck E Cheese's. When he first entered the restaurant his face just lit up, like a child in a candy store. WOW what a day that was. Or the time when we had gone for dinners, movies, ice-cream etc. How I remember all of the special times that we had shared together.
Matthew you were a very special person who I will always remember. You brought such joy into everyone's life regardless if you knew them or not. I will always love you my little friend. Rest in peace.

Our sincerest condolences to the McFarlane family. Our chance meeting of Matt was indeed a chance of a lifetime for Joe and myself. The annual BBQ at Ian's will never be the same. Matthew's love of life, his contagious laugh, his jokes and quick wit were just a few of his charms. He was a great dancer and to our delight had a great singing voice as well. His patriotism to our troops around the world was a constant and he would always be on the bridge to salute one of our servicemen when they would sadly come home to rest. We salute you Matt for the joy you have brought to this world. Be with the angels. Joe & Steph Martin

I remember when I first met Matt at the trailer park he lived behind us. He would call over the bush and ask if it was OK for him to pop over and then reconfirm with Mom or Dad that it was OK with them before he left. He would love to go to the beach and check out the girls with my daughter Victoria and her friend Courtney. I remember when it was his birthday, a date he would never let anyone forget and I am bad with birthdays but for some reason Matt's special day stuck. He invited everyone in the park to his trailer for cake. I remember letting his mom know that he had invited so many and she was not surprised. Matt had this ability to warm up hearts of people he had just met and brought everyone so much joy. He loved Alan Jackson, I sure wish he could have had the chance to meet him. Alan would have been so proud of him. I can hear him now, "how ya doing Mike?" "you sure do look pretty Brenda" "Where ya going Victoria, can I come". To hear those words again. Forever missed but always loved. Brenda, Mike, Tyler and Victoria (Munroe)

Dear Matt A message for one amazing person, MATTHEW!! You have touched the lives of many including friends, teachers, educational assistants, bus drivers and work placement supervisors and many, many others. My first EA assignment was in your class with MS. Hopper. I have memories of how you would ask me each time we met how I was doing and how my day was going? I loved hearing your voice in the morning as you made the sports announcements. You certainly were a natural! I also have great memories of riding the bus with you , early mornings, you would always be happy and greeting us all with a big hello. Matthew I will miss you, you will live in my heart forever! Today I'm praying that your family will be surrounded by God's love now and forever. "Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always..." II Thessalonians 3:16 Love MS. Betty Van Dyk
