Obituary of Freeman James Reid
Suddenly at the age of 72 on July 20, 2019, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Freeman passed away with his sons by his side. Freeman was the much loved father of Barrett (Andrea) Reid and Joel (Melissa) Reid. He was a very proud Grandpa and he will be forever missed by his beloved grandchildren Ethan, Sydney and Harper Reid. Predeceased by his parents Bill and Effie Reid, his sister Daphne Reid and his brother Raymond Reid and sadly missed by Michelle, Hailey and Isaac Fitzgerald. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended families (Bruce and Szumowski) as well as his many friends. A special thank you to our Newfoundland cousins David & Violet, Nancy and their family for all of their love and support during Dad’s final days.
Freeman was born July 05, 1947 in North Harbour, Newfoundland. He attended Brock University and studied law at the University of Windsor. He practised law in Oshawa at Reid, Brown & Bell until he retired in 1995. A lifelong boater, he & his sister purchased Starport Landing in Orillia in 1996 and spent many happy years there with his family. Freeman retired from the marina business in 2004 and spent much of his retirement in Collingwood, Ontario and Fort Myers, Florida before recently settling back in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Freeman’s life came full circle as he was finally home. Despite health challenges later in life, Freeman loved life and lived his to the fullest. We will miss his uncanny ability to always be correct, his unwavering honesty and integrity, his playful seriousness and his best interpretation of what some may call dancing.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Freeman’s life on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00am at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa, L1J 0C7 (south side of Taunton Road, east of Thornton Road, by the Oshawa Airport)905-440-3595.
