It was a joy to work with Martin and I will never forget the warmth his smile brought to the office each and every day. The loss of him will be felt by many. The memories of his wonderful personality and many contributions will always be there. He had a tremendous impact on all who got to know him. Sil and family my thoughts are with you. Maggie

Martin always won our yearly wager for when the snow would melt, for a Tim Horton's coffee... thank you for being a great colleague and helping me with projects every time I asked. Rest in peace Martin, you will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Martin's passing. My favourite memory is how he would always speak to me with an English accent, knowing full well that I'm Scottish, just to bug me! Such a funny guy, gone way to soon.

When Martin entered a room, you knew he had arrived. He always had a smile on his face, would give you a genuine greeting and would say something witty to make you laugh. Even when he was going through his treatments, he still kept that smile and witty sense of humour.
He was a true Champion for youth in care and families served by Durham Children's Aid Society. He always thought of ways to make their lives better.
My heart goes out to Silvana, his great love; his children, his great joy and his family who he was always so proud of.
Know that others grieve with you as you begin to walk this journey of bereavement. We cannot understand why we lose those who make such an impact in our life. We only know that they are gone too soon.

The saying must be true...only the good die young. Martin will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. I hope his journey has taught us all to be kinder, more generous and to always keep a sense of humour through all of the good and the not so good times. I hope Martin is now at peace and I hope loved ones can take comfort in knowing the world was a better place while he was with us. My deepest sympathies to family and friends. Laura jp

So sorry to hear that Martin has passed. I didn't know him well, but what I did know was that he always made me laugh. He was comical and this was certainly welcomed at work. I have been keeping Martin, Sil, and their family in prayer and will continue to do so.

Martin I am so sad that you have left, I will miss your silly smiles and jokes, your dedication to your work, colleagues, youth and families of Durham. Your loyalty to your accounting staff was always above and beyond, thanks for always having our backs. Although you did drive us crazy at times. Still miss your presence as you walked through that door with your big hello and trying to catch you for a question man you were good at disappearing quickly. You always made me laugh.
The love and devotion to his children was always evident when he spoke of them, he will always be by your side.
Silvana the love you shared is precious and everlasting, may his love comfort you in the coming days and weeks.

Martin was a fantastic man. He was caring, incredibly smart, witty, and compassionate. He had the best sense of humour and would regularly crack me up. When I drove my convertible bug every time I left the roof down I would catch him walking around the building with the purple flower that came with the car affixed to his lapel :) When Downton Abbey was the big show he would regular come into my office speaking with an English accent.
Martin loved the agency, his friends, and his family, He was so proud of his children and their many accomplishments. It is so tragic that this happened to Martin, he was so young and had so much to look forward to, watching his children evolve as adults and spending his retirement with his love Silvana. I will miss Martin dearly and I hope that he is at peace. Janet.

I have known Marin since the 90’s working at DCAS. He was always funny and genuine. Loving man who always put the children of Durham region first. Although the job is stressful at times he brought humour, compassion and understanding to the work. I remember early in my tenure Martin wanted to go camping with his kids so I leant him what I had so he could do it. His focus for his children and others is how I will remember him. And Silvana, you brought him such happiness and care. He loved you so much and will always walk in life with you. My heart and love go to you, his children, family and friends during this difficult time. Much love ❤️ you want
