Obituary of Aleksander Bogdan

 Aleksander Bogdan - Passed Peacefully surrounded by family at Copernicus Lodge on December 7, 2022   Predeceased by beloved wife Joan. Loving father of Angela, Antony (Bridget), John and Joseph (Janice). Dear grandfather of Jason, Kate (Genki), Joanna (Tim), John (Tess), Aleksandra, Sawyer (Michael), Madeline and Kaitlin.  Proud great grandfather of Nuala. Born in December 1924 and baptized on January 20, 1925 in a village called Swidry in Bialystok County, Poland to Franciszek Bogdan and Franciszka (nee Drobinska) Bogdan. Brother of Geniek and Teresa. Predeceased by brothers Wincenty, Ludwig and sisters Zosia and Genowefa.  In February 1940, along with his family, Aleksander was forcibly deported by the Russians, and taken to a place called Hantemansijsk in the Omsk region living under harsh conditions in Siberia. They were released in 1941. In early 1942, Aleksander enlisted in the Polish Signals Regiment. He  became specialized as a radio telegraphist with the HQ of the Polish 2nd Corps, was used at Monte Cassino, as well as in the Adriatic Campaign.  Following the war, he studied in England and became a Certified Accountant. He married Joan Bailey of London, England on March 31, 1951. Along with their children Angela and Antony, they immigrated to Canada in 1959 where he continued his career as a Certified Account. The family was expanded with the birth of sons John and Joseph. Aleksander and Joan were active within their parish community as well as the polish community and enjoyed spending time with family and their many friends. Following the death of his beloved wife Joan, Aleksander moved to Copernicus Lodge where he was much beloved by his community. Thank you to the many staff for the great care that they provided to him especially in his final days. 

Visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Kieth Ross Drive in Oshawa (905) 440 3595 on Thursday December 15th from 10:00am - 11:30am.  A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday december 15th at 12:00pm at St. Hedwigs Parish Oshawa. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Copernicus Lodge  Foundation.
