Obituary of Ugo Chiodo
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ugo Chiodo, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the age of 87. Born in Scigliano, Italy, Ugo’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Ugo was the loving husband of Faustina Chiodo for over 62 years, a marriage built on mutual respect, affection, and the shared values that anchored their lives together. He was a proud father to his two sons, Gabriel Chiodo, married to Pauline, and Sandy Chiodo, married to Dina. His family was his greatest joy, and his strength and support shaped the lives of his children and their families.
Ugo was also a proud and devoted grandfather to Patricia, Mario, Claudia, Lucas, and Julia, who brought him immense pride and happiness. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, and he treasured every moment spent with them, offering wisdom, warmth, and the deep love that only a grandfather can give. Some of the great memories shared with Ugo included sitting around the dinner table while he told incredibly detailed and hilarious stories about the past, usually over a plate of pasta, a glass of red vino, or for special occasions, a Coors Light.
A proud Italian at heart, Ugo never forgot his roots and carried the rich traditions of his heritage with him throughout his life. His strong sense of family and unwavering work ethic were shaped by the values instilled in him in his homeland, and he passed these on to his children and grandchildren, ensuring that his legacy of love and respect would endure for generations.
Throughout his life, Ugo was known for his generosity, good humour, and tireless support of those he loved. His devotion to his family was evident in all that he did, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ugo was a devoted Toronto sports fan with a special affinity for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. He excelled at 10-pin bowling, bocce ball and he took up golf at the age of 65 and was a natural! He loved to travel with Faustina and enjoyed 26 years of winters at his condo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Ugo is survived by his loving wife, Faustina; his sons Gabriel (Pauline) and Sandy (Dina); his grandchildren Patricia (Ryan), Mario (Nicole), Claudia (Roberto), Lucas (Nicolle), and Julia (Niko); and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre and/or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Ugo’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life lived with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. May he rest in peace.
