We were so sad to hear about the passing of John. I have so many fond memories of him up in Harcourt Park. I was one of the few that he allowed to drive his new boat. We spent hours driving that boat around the lake waterskiing and tubing. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Kelly, Clare, Kathryn and families,
So very sorry to hear about the loss of you dad, father-in-law and grandfather.
Your dad was such a positive man, who modelled the importance of living life to the fullest. Many fond memories of him sharing many laughs with the adults and the kids on the dock, reminding us all that “this is heaven”. The smile on his face as he drove around many skiers on Big Straggle waving to everyone in his white cutter will always be remembered. The beach at lot 22 Big Straggle will always be remembered as Johnny’s Beach.
Memories last forever - cherish them all as much as he loved and adored each one of you.
Our love to you all,
Darryl and Beth

John was such a strong influence on my children when they were small. My son Thomas would sit with Uncle John and look over the Auto section. Thomas would tell his Uncle every make and model. Today Thomas can pull a vehicle apart and put it back together. If it weren't for his Uncle I don't think he would have the incling to do so. Thank you for teaching my daughter to be the fish she is today and for all the trips to the cottage. These are definately memories they hold dear to their hearts. Thank you for being a good husband to my sister for always being her rock and soulmate. My favorite memories of John were always when I'd call and he would mistaken me for Teresa our voices were so similar. John was a great man and these memories will be cherished forever.

My dear, unforgettable friend John and I met as young men while working in the sales department of GM Canada. His infectious enthusiasm, intelligence and integrity immediately endeared him to me and everyone who met him. As our families grew, my children Cara and Jay became close friends to his wonderful daughters, Clare, Kelly and Kathryn. On Christmas eve, for many years, we would party with friends and neighbours at their house and as the evening came to a close, help John assemble the toys and games for the next morning. Our memories are full of hilarious weekends on Big Straggle; coasting in from the main road to see how far we could go, watching the bears at the dump, risking life and limb cutting down trees and water skiing with wonderful, competitive John. He has left an indelible mark on so many lives - we loved him. Our love and sympathy to you Clare, Kelly and Kathryn; we look forward to seeing you soon. Geoff and Katita

Dear Kelly Ann, Claire, Kathryn and families
I am so sorry to hear of you dad’s passing. I have such wonderful and special memories of him as a cherished neighbour on Big Straggle in Harcourt Park.
My first encounter with your dad was the day that my late wife, Rose, the realtor and my self were standing on the front yard of the cottage that we did purchase ,and your mom and dad drove by in their boat and he yelled in at us “Buy it you need something to do to fill your spare time in the summer!” So we took your dad’s advice and have thanked him a million times over.
Your dad had the patience of Job. He tirelessly taught my three daughters how to water ski and through it all constantly encouraged them.
What a wonderful, caring, thoughtful man.
Holding You all in my thoughts and prayers and close to my heart.
Sincerely
Dave Chalmers

Erik Marshall posted a condolence
Saturday, February 6, 2021
John Aker’s positivity, generosity, and welcoming nature served as a strong gravitational force to those of us in his orbit. His outgoing and engaging manner could always get people laughing and transport them, even if just for a brief time, away from the distractions and stresses of everyday life. He could relate to people and knew how to put them at ease.
As a father, John was absolutely adored by his daughters and for the best reasons. He was a pillar of strength, a trusted advisor, affectionate and fun. John’s mantras of “life is good” and “this is heaven” were true when John was around.
As a father-in-law, John was kind, interested and welcoming from the start. I loved him for who he was and for the doting Dad he was to Kathryn. John, your passing has evoked a profound sadness in my family and our hearts ache for you. We are going to keep your memory alive in our thoughts and talk about you often. You taught us a lot to remember and we will pass these valuable lessons along to our children.
Our sincere condolences to all of John’s family, friends and former colleagues, especially his loving wife Theresa and their children Krystle, Angela, Michael, Kelly, Clare and Kathryn; sister Joan, grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and good friends David and Char.
Rest in peace John.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of John. He always seemed so invincible! After John and Theresa sold their cottage and left Harcourt Park we have been so fortunate to still have contact with Kelly (Chris), Clare, Kathryn (Eric) and their children on Big Straggle Lake. John thought the world of his three daughters, their friends and grandchildren. He treated all with respect. John was fun-loving, humorous, generous and competitive. For many years John and I competed in the Masters Aquatic Day Water Ski competition. We seldom won but he often questioned which one of us was better. One very cold Aquatic Weekend I checked to see where he was as his turn was next. I found him in the cottage after he lit a fire to heat up his bright yellow water ski vest to keep warm and possibly give him an advantage. I am not sure if this helped or not as I have no idea who won, but it wasn’t about that it was about enjoying the moment.

My first memory of John is him raking the field by the community centre every August weekend to ready it for the land events for the annual regatta day in Harcourt Park. I still see him in my mind walking on the beach when he visited me at my cottage. We occasionally water-skied together. He and his daughters socialized with my kids and me too. From our collaboration on the development of projects, to your service as a former Chair, his contribution to helping build our community will be remembered.
May God rest John’s soul, and bless his memory.
Sincerely,
